The artist definitely prefers to work from her own photographs.  In the event that the artist cannot take the pictures of your pet, here are some basic instructions:

1.  Use a professional camera (the kind where you can change the lens).  Use one that you are familiar with.

2.  You can use a 50mm lens or a zoom of 28-80mm.  The artist prefers a zoom, as it does not intimidate the pet as much.

3.  Use a film ISO 400 of 24 to 36 pictures.  Take a minimum of 24 photographs of your pet.

4.  When you take the pictures put yourself at the same level as the pet.

5.  DO NOT USE ANY FLASH.

6.  The artist prefers an outdoor photograph.  Make sure you take the photographs on a cloudy day.  If it is sunny make sure the pet is photographed in the shade.  If you do not want to take your pet outside, take the photographs of your pet in the day beside a window. (No direct sunlight).  It is better when the window is not in the picture.

7.  You need to send the artist a choice of 3 or more good pictures.  Please mention on the back of one of the photographs which is your favorite.  Also mention on the back of two other photographs, which is your second choice and which is your third choice.

8.  It is possible that if the artist cannot work with the pictures sent, new ones will have to be made.

9.  Please do not send the artist photographs that are not to your liking.

10.  Please put the number of the negative behind the photographs that you send.

11.  Please keep your negatives.  It is possible that the artist will require an enlargement of one of the photographs.

NOTE: If you feel uncomfortable or uncertain about photographing your pet, we strongly recommend that you use a professional photographer or ask someone who has developed these skills.

The quality of the portrait depends a lot on the quality of the photograph used to accomplish the art work.
